Sarah Beshir has become the franchisee and managing director of Right at Home’s office in Westminster, central London, having recently received her Care Quality Commission registration.

Beshir started her career as a biomedical scientist at the NHS blood transfusion department in 2005, before becoming a registered nurse and working for various hospitals across London. When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, Beshir was placed in charge of infection prevention and control at St John and St Elizabeth Hospital in London.

She said: “From when I started in the role in September 2019, to when I left the hospital in June 2021, we had no Covid outbreaks at all. We were fully functioning throughout.”

Beshir later worked as a senior infection prevention and control nurse for Imperial College Healthcare, but soon became drawn to the homecare sector after seeing patients unable to return home due to limited available community support. She explained: “It was frustrating to see people ready to walk out the door, but they couldn’t do so because a care package hadn’t been placed. I wanted to bridge the gap.”

Beshir said she approached four homecare franchisors before deciding that Right at Home was the right fit for her, adding: “I found Right at Home to be really supportive and passionate about providing quality care.”

Beshir’s strategy to provide complex care in the community is aligned with Right at Home’s clinical care project, which is being rolled out across its network with the aim of preventing hospital visits and readmissions. She said: “I was very excited about the clinical care project, as I want to be able to provide high-quality complex care in addition to basic care.

Beshir has been joined by care manager Pauletta Wilson, who has more than 20 years’ experience in health and social care. They are in the process of building a team of care workers to deliver support and companionship services within people’s homes.

Beshir said: “I want to provide multiple services to clients. Someone might need help with their shopping, but they may also require catheter care, so I want my clients to be able to receive these services without having to go to two different providers. I’m really keen to get started.”
