NACC to help care homes celebrate D-Day 80th anniversary
The National Association of Care Catering (NACC) is to help care homes celebrate this year’s 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
The NACC has released a free resource pack for all in care sector to download to make the most of the day in their care homes on 6 June, including info on lunch clubs and Meals on Wheels provisions. The pack includes a fish and chips recipe from NACC Care Chef of the Year, Brian Preston.
NACC national chair, Neel Radia, said: “This is an ideal celebration for everyone within the care sector. Many of today’s residents in the care homes represented by the NACC will have first-hand memories of this momentous occasion and we have a fine reputation of inviting the local community into our homes, including young children, to share events like these, giving our residents the chance to pass on their treasured memories.”
National Fish & Chip Day (which is now in its ninth year) has been moved this year in order to honour the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, the largest naval, land and air operation in history.
Fish & chips were often considered the British national dish and this humble meal was a vital ingredient of the war effort in both the first and second world wars. The British government safeguarded the supply of fish and potatoes during both world wars in order to keep up morale.
