Milewood Healthcare has built and designed a bespoke care home for one resident in Stockton-on-Tees.

Cleveland Villa, which will become home to a young man with Down Syndrome, has living facilities for two staff.

Martyn Heginbotham, chief executive of Milewood, said: “Cleveland Villa is a statement of intent. It shows what we are capable of at Milewood. This is a special, unique opportunity and a project that we have greatly invested in, both from a time and financial perspective.

“This kind of exciting solution shows the potential of what care providers can do. We are continuing to offer first-class care to our service users while enabling them to live happily and independently.

“I hope this proves to be the beginning of a move towards new and exciting ideas in the care sector to ensure care is provided in ways specific to the service users. We also hope that X will be happy in his fabulous new home.”

The upstairs of the home has been completely remodelled with a large bedroom with the resident actively engaged in choosing the décor.

The resident’s mother, Mary, said: “Ever since my son moved into supported living, it’s not been the right solution for him. So we’ve been working with Milewood to explore possibilities and together we’ve found an answer which is effectively a care home for one.

“It’s a brilliant solution and for him to be involved throughout, by choosing things like the paint for his room, means he’s just as excited and enthused as we are. It’s really like one big family, I couldn’t think of a better place for him.”
