Exemplar Health Care, a leading nursing care provider for adults living with complex needs, has opened a new unit at its Edgewater care home in Wallasey, Merseyside.

The new 10-bed unit will support adults with complex mental health needs and expands on Edgewater’s existing two units which support adults with a range of needs including neuro-disabilities, brain injuries and physical disabilities.

Sarah McKee, home manager at Edgewater, said: “At Edgewater, our commitment to compassionate care and community support is evident in our latest expansion, a 10-bed unit designed to provide exceptional support to adults with complex mental health needs.

“As we open this new chapter, we proudly continue to foster a homely and responsive environment through small group living, offering the care and empowerment our residents deserve. This expansion not only creates 30 new healthcare jobs, but it also reaffirms our dedication to providing comprehensive and person-centred care, enabling our residents to lead fulfilling and joyful lives.”

Upon opening of the final unit, Edgewater will be split into three, 10-bed communities – as small group living provides a more homely, supportive and responsive care environment – each of the 30 bedrooms has its own ensuite wet room. The home also features spacious communal and activity rooms, sensory and therapy rooms, and landscaped gardens for residents and visitors to enjoy.

Exemplar Health Care has already created 80 new healthcare jobs in the local area, and unlike many local care homes, will feature a multi-disciplinary healthcare team. Edgewater is currently recruiting for roles including a unit manager, registered nurses and health care assistants.
