Constructions begins on Burnley care home

Exemplar Health Care, a nursing care provider for adults living with complex and high acuity needs, has begun on-site construction for its new £6.9 million care home in Padiham, Burnley.

Warrington-based contractor Triton Construction leads the development with Loughborough-based Watson Batty Architects designing the home with input from Exemplar Health Care’s service user council, a group of residents living at its homes, who help ensure the plans meet the needs of future residents with a broad range of health conditions.

The home will be called Wytham Lodge and will support adults living with acquired brain injuries, complex mental health needs, and physical disabilities, providing long-term community care to adults who would otherwise have a prolonged stay in hospital.

The home will be split into three communities and each of the 34 large bedrooms will have an en suite wet room. Each community will have its own communal dining and living spaces, and a sensory bathroom. The home will also feature an activities hub, a large accessible garden, and a therapy room offering holistic therapeutic care and support led by the in-home physiotherapist and occupational therapist.

Wytham Lodge is set to open next summer 2024 and will create more than 100 new healthcare jobs in the local area, including health care assistants, registered nurses, and a physiotherapist and occupational therapist.

Steve Rigby, head of developments at Exemplar Health Care, said: “We have designed this new home with the needs and comfort of future residents in mind. It will feature spacious bedrooms, common areas with plenty of natural light, and a variety of amenities, such as kitchen equipment that can change height to support both mobile and wheelchair users, to promote resident engagement and wellbeing.

“This marks a significant investment in the local community, as we aim to create 100 jobs for skilled and compassionate healthcare workers who will deliver person-centred care to our residents. We look forward to welcoming the first residents to Wytham Lodge in 2024 and working closely with our local health and social care partners to meet the needs of the local community.”
