CareTech Foundation has extended its partnership with The Open University to fully fund undergraduate unpaid carers.

The Carers Scholarship Fund offers full fee waivers to students and applications opened in spring 2023 for study in autumn 2023. The fund is available to UK based, means tested carers who can provide proof of caring from a qualified professional.

Chief executive of CareTech Foundation, Jonathan Freeman, said: “We are thrilled to be able to extend the funding for the Carers Scholarship Fund with The Open University. This means the Foundation’s cohort of students will be able to complete their studies and maximise their job opportunities. The fund is a game-changer for the students and will significantly enhance their chances of future success.”

Chief of staff of The Open University, Jhumar Johnson, said: “It is an honour that one of the top corporates in the care sector is supporting The OU’s Carers Scholarships Fund. Having CareTech Foundation supporting this community brings not just vital funding but also invaluable expertise into the mix. This donation is truly wonderful and shows their commitment to the caring sector.”

The funding will help 12 young carers supported by the Foundation continue their study and complete their degree.
