A West Midlands theatre is offering 10 free shows for care home residents between January and June next year.

The hour long performances at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre will feature musician Carl McGregor and local artist Sofie Anné.

Head of outreach, Remy Lloyd, told Caring Times: “We believe every member of the community should have the opportunity to enjoy Wolverhampton Grand Theatre and the magic that live theatre can bring to them. We reach out to every age group – for example, theatre can be a great learning tool, so we work with young people and schools. For those later in life, live music has many emotional and behavioural benefits for those who are living with dementia.

“That’s why we hold our memory cafes here at the theatre. We also recognise that not everyone can make it to the theatre, so we go to them. Funding for care homes does not cover this type of provision and if we were to charge for it, many people would not have access to our vital service. We are committed to reaching and positively affecting everyone in the community and that is why we offer this service for free and why fundraising campaigns, such as our Big Give campaign are necessary.”
