Buttermere staff celebrate their Good inspection report

Buttermere House care home in Horsham, Sussex, has been rated Good in all areas following its first inspection by the CQC.

The home, part of Silverlake Care which is operated by Healthcare Management Solutions, provides accommodation and care to people who have complex learning disabilities, autism and related conditions.

Tony Stein, chief executive of Healthcare Management Solutions, said: “We are all very pleased with the outcome of Buttermere House’s CQC inspection.

“I am especially pleased to read the comments from our residents and their families. Our purpose as a business is to provide care in a warm and welcoming environment, so knowing that this is being delivered is very encouraging.

“Well done to the whole team on achieving this recognition and for the care they give to the people they support every single day.”

The inspector noted: “People who used the service told us staff were kind, caring and respectful towards them. People’s care plans and the support from the registered manager provided staff with the information required to support people effectively. People and their families were involved in the planning of their care and their wishes were respected.”

The report also stated: “People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice.”

One relative told the CQC: “I have no concerns whatsoever about [my relative’s] safety, Buttermere House is the safest place she can be,” and another said: “They know [my relative] inside out and what they need to do to keep her happy.”

The manager was praised with the report saying: “Staff demonstrated an understanding of their roles and responsibilities and told us that they had confidence in the registered manager. One member of staff told us: “[Registered manager] is always available for us, we can speak with her at any time.”
