Skills for Care has announced the appointment of three new trustees to its Board.

Naser Turabi, director of evidence and implementation at Cancer Research UK, Penny Fell former commercial director with the Disclosure and Barring Service and Bill Mumford a freelance senior consultant with over 40 years’ experience in the social care sector, will be joining the Skills for Care Board at its next meeting on 14 December.

Turabi, whose work focuses on accelerating the adoption of innovation and reducing inequalities in access, will be bringing his expertise in the use of data to inform strategy.

Fell brings with her decades of leadership experience of working in the health and social care sector, and an understanding of what drives a business to succeed in public, private, and third sector trading environments.

Mumford, who first started working in social care as a live-in care assistant at Barnardo’s, and who more recently has held chief executive roles at Eden Valley and Jigsaw Hospice, and prior to that MacIntyre, has a deep understanding of the social care sector and the issues and challenges it faces.

John Coughlan, chair of Skills for Care, said: “We are excited about the appointment of our three new trustees and the comprehensive and varied experience which they will be bringing to our Board.

“It’s a critical time for the adult social care sector right now with plans for integrated care systems between health and social care, the proposed reforms from ‘The people at the heart of care’ white paper, and as the sector manages recruitment and retention challenges which have been compounded by the Covid-19 pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis.

“Skills for Care has an important role to play in helping employers navigate this landscape, and our newest Board members will be instrumental in guiding our direction to provide the support that social care employers and the workforce need right now.”
