WATCH: Retired NHS worker’s care home performance goes viral on TikTok

81-year-old Dave Williams has become a TikTok sensation after an impromptu performance of Unchained Melody was viewed by 600,000 on the social media platform.

Williams, who worked as a medical assistant for the NHS for almost 50 years, took to the stage to deliver his rendition of the Righteous Brothers as part of a fundraising event at Park View nursing home in Liverpool.

“I was worried about hitting the notes, but I thought, I’m gonna have a go!,” he said to ITV News. “It was hard with my chest being bad, but it was alright.”

In 1958, Williams’ band, The Dices, appeared alongside The Beatles’ drummer Ringo Starr at the Morgue Skiffle Cellar in Broadgreen, with Williams going on to sing with the full Beatles line-up at Knotty Ash Village Hall in 1961.

Williams’ daughter is a kitchen assistant at Park View nursing home and asked him to come along to a fundraiser at the home.

“Dad is loving it, as he always says, singing is his first love,” she commented. “We’ll have to get him a little diary now to start taking bookings!”

Although Williams himself does not use social media and had not heard of TikTok until now, he has been enjoying the attention from his newfound fame.
