Police investigate report of assault at Highlands care home

Scottish police are investigating a report of the assault of a 91-year-old man at a Highlands care home.

The alleged assault took place at Home Farm care home on the Isle of Skye which is operated by NHS Highland.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “On Thursday, 14 September, 2023, police received a report regarding the assault of a 91-year-old man in the Portree area of Skye. Enquiries are continuing.”

A source told The West Highland Free Press the complaint concerned verbal and physical treatment and two staff members had been suspended during the investigation.

NHS Highland took over operation of the home from HC-One at the height of the Covid pandemic in November 2020.

The care home had previously suffered a major Covid-19 outbreak during which 10 residents died.

Families of the residents who died launched legal action against the home.

The deaths are being investigated by the Crown Office.

An NHS Highland spokesperson said: “Due to the ongoing police investigation, it would be inappropriate for us to make a comment at this time.”
