Liz Thomson, who has made headlines as one of the country’s oldest care home workers, has been nominated for a second national award.

Thompson, activities coordinator at Balhousie Huntly in Aderdeenshire, has reached the finals of the s1jobs Recruitment Awards.

Eighty-year-old Thompson, who is older than many of her residents, is shortlisted for a Shine Award, the category for those who “go above beyond their call of duty and offer excellent service”.

Thompson recently featured on STV for keeping residents at the Huntly care home active and engaged with exercises, days out, knitting groups and gardening.

Emmanuel Owusu, deputy manager at Balhousie Huntly, said: “We’re so thrilled for Liz and for this recognition of her hard work and dedication to our residents, many of whom she knows from growing up in Huntly. We all have our fingers crossed for the finals.”

This is Thompson’s second award nomination in six months. She reached the northeast regional finals of the 2021 Great British Care Awards for her activities work. The finals of the s1jobs Recruitment Awards take place in Glasgow on 14 April.
