Maun View residents enjoy the interactive music session

A Mansfield care home has been selected to take part in a music research project led by The University of Nottingham.

As a part of this project, which aims to showcase the positive effects of music on residents and promote the potential benefits of similar interventions in care settings on a broader scale, a special intervention session was filmed at Runwood Homes’ Maun View care home in Mansfield on Wednesday 10 January 2024.

The session was organised as part of Maun View’s regular weekly activities programme by wellbeing lead, Nia Alston-Holmes. Filming the session provided an opportunity to capture and share the impact that music has had on the lives of Maun View residents living with dementia.

Alston-Holmes said: “This initiative has had a long-lasting effect on our residents and their wellbeing. Our weekly musical interventions have proven to elevate mood, enhance memory, and increase overall involvement from the residents. We are excited to showcase the positive impact of these sessions.”

The University of Nottingham and Maun View aim to spread awareness about the potential benefits of musical interventions in care homes and inspire further research and implementation in the field.
