Local care home owner acquires large Cornish home

Care home owner has Aamir Iqbal has purchased North Hill Nursing Home in St Austell, Cornwall, which occupies a large 33-bedroom property with an attached eighteenth-century cottage and is registered for 35 residents.

Since 1994 the home has been owned by David Smith who is selling in order to retire from the sector.

Iqbal also owns a nursing home in Torquay.

Smith said: “After owning the nursing home for over 30 years, it was always going to be an emotional roller coaster to finally let go of a business that had been centre stage of my life for such a long period. I bought it as a small 24-bed home and, after three major building projects, it has been transformed to provide modern and compliant accommodation. To be honest, I did not appreciate the complexity of selling the home, but I am now able to fully enjoy my well-earned retirement.”

Specialist business property advisor Christie & Co facilitated the sale.

Simon Harvey, senior director, care at Christie & Co, said: “This sale further evidences the strength of the transactional market for care homes in the Southwest and continues to demonstrate the appetite that exists for good-quality well-run businesses. As we approach the end of the year, although the sector is not without its challenges, the sentiment that we are seeing from the majority of buyers and sellers remains upbeat and, as such, the outlook for 2025 is certainly positive.”

North Hill Nursing Home was sold for an undisclosed price.
