Mayor Brentwood, Cllr Gareth Barrett, has officially opened a new seaside oasis at an Essex care home.

The new seaside area at Old Shenfield Place Care Home features a beach-style sandpit in a seaside and underwater theme. It also includes a beach bar, deckchairs and straw style umbrellas to decorate the picnic benches.

Cllr Barrett said: “I was delighted to be invited to join Old Shenfield Place care home to open their new seaside garden.

“Their summer party brought together families of all generations and it was great to see so many smiling faces and hear memories shared. It was a pleasure to be part of their celebration.”

The event was a trip down memory lane for many as residents reminisced about their most memorable seaside family holidays while they took part in some traditional beachside activities, including a beach-style sandpit, ice cream van, bouncy castle and live music.

Not only was the event a huge success, but the home also raised £475 for its residents’ fund with plans to treat the residents to something extraordinary once they reach the magic £1,000 figure.

Cristina Duran, home manager at Old Shenfield Place, said: “The day was a great success. It was fantastic to see our residents reminiscing and enjoying the sensory and traditional pleasures of a visit to the seaside.

“We are so excited to be able to open our brand new seaside area. We are confident it will make a huge difference to our residents as it provides an escape and a unique experience.

“It was a pleasure to welcome the Mayor, Gareth Barrett to officially open the seaside oasis. Our residents love a party, and love engagement from the outside world.

“The joy on the residents’ faces was a testament to the success of the event and I’d like to thank my team for all their dedication to making it such a wonderful day.”
