Doing more about dental hygiene

Many care home residents are not receiving adequate dental health support. CQC inspectors visiting more than 100 care homes in England found that residents did not have enough access to dental services and that staff were not giving residents the necessary support.

The British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy (BSDHT) says it is committed to ensuring that everyone has access to care and support want care providers to invite them into care homes to teach staff and residents about oral hygiene and why it is so important to those receiving care.

The society says it can show how to keep oral care simple but effective and recommend products and techniques that will really make a difference.
