Care home residents beat winter blues with woodland walk

Residents at RMBI Care Co home Shannon Court wrapped up and went on an adventure across the care home’s woodlands supported by staff.

Shannon Court, located in Surrey, promotes outdoor activities as a way to help residents build stronger muscles and bones, improve their blood circulation, boost their mood and provide a general sense of wellbeing.

“It was so lovely to see their faces, especially as some laughed along the way. Afterwards, we all enjoyed a warm drink back at the home,” said Leah Oliver, one of the home’s activities co-ordinators.

Harrison, Oliver’s seven-year-old son, accompanied the group and brought his dogs with him. “Having children and animals at Shannon Court is so beneficial,” said Oliver. “It’s very refreshing for residents as this helps bring back memories of when they were younger, so it’s a brilliant stimulation for their brains. They all loved petting the dogs, getting lot of kisses and some even took the dogs for a little walk.”
