Cumnor Hill staff celebrate their Good rating

A luxury Oxfordshire care home has achieved a Good CQC rating following the appointment of a new manager.

Berkley Care Homes’ Cumnor Hill was rated Requires Improvement by the CQC last year after previously being rated Outstanding.

Following the appointment of general manager, Sherrie Hume, with the support of her deputy, Natasha Stone, the home has now been rated Good by the CQC.

Andrew Winstanley, chief executive of Berkley Care Group, said: “We are thrilled to have attained a Good rating from the CQC during their recent inspection. This accomplishment serves as a solid foundation for us to aim for an Outstanding rating at our next inspection. We are on track to achieve this goal.

“This rating is a testament to the hard work of our compassionate staff, led by general manager, Sherrie. Under her leadership they’ve prioritised the wellbeing of our residents and have worked hard to ensure they receive the tailored, consistent care they require. We are devoted to providing top-quality care to our residents and will continue to strive for excellence.

“Our team at Cumnor Hill House has put in tremendous effort to ensure that every resident is treated with kindness, compassion, and respect. We are immensely proud of their dedication and hard work.”

The CQC report noted the exceptional safety of the care home, which provides residents with a comfortable and safe place to live. The report also highlighted the quality of the food available to residents, including the well-presented ‘home cooked’ food freshly prepared by the home’s catering team. All the residents’ meals are prepared in the home’s kitchen, which has a five-star food hygiene rating.

The inspectors were positive about the home’s staffing levels, as well as its “clear management and staffing structure”. They also cited Cumnor’s “personalised” rooms which were decorated to a “high standard” to adapt to residents’ needs.
