Athena Care Home Group purchases pair of Cambridge care homes

Langdon House

Athena Care Home Group has acquired a pair of Cambridge care homes, Langdon House and Alex Wood House.

Langdon House is a purpose-built 24-hour residential care home that can accommodate 51 residents who are frail, elderly, and may have a diagnosis of, or are living with, dementia. Alex Wood House can accommodate 36 older people over the age of 65 with higher needs and advanced dementia.

The homes were previously owned by the charitable housing association and social enterprise, CHS Group, which sold them in order to focus on its other core interests.

Stephen Hills, chief executive at CHS Group, said: “The decision to sell Alex Wood House and Langdon House has been extremely difficult but will allow CHS Group to focus its efforts on its core offering of social housing and services for people in need in our community. Athena Care Homes is a family-owned care provider in East Anglia which operates with similar values to our own and we are confident that they will be able to continue providing the excellent level of care currently available at both homes.”

Mala Agarwal, managing director at Athena Care Home Group, commented: “We’re excited to be able to bring our passion for exceptional care to the Cambridge community and to build on the great work of CHS Group.”

Business property advisor Christie & Co facilitated the sale.

Joanne Mathers, director at Christie & Co, said: “Despite uncertainty over increased interest rates and rising operational costs, our experience shows there remains a strong appetite for quality care homes in the region and across the UK.”

Langdon House and Alex Wood House were sold for an undisclosed price.
