Anavo Group today formally opened its Surbitonian Gardens care home in Surbiton, Southwest London.

Surrey councillor and former mayor of Kingston upon Thames, Sushila Abraham, joined residents and the Anavo Group leadership team for the opening ceremony of the 80-bed care home, which provides residential, nursing, dementia, respite and day services.

Christine Valentine-Bunce, operations & commissioning director, said: “This opening has been a labour of love, determination and quite a few tears to create a home that’s meaningful to all who work here, live here and visit here. Our vision is an inside-out home that is part of the community offering community space for the community to enjoy. Residents in care should not be tucked away but should continue to be part of the community and have the community be part of their lives.”

The mixed community care home is split into five households of 16 en-suite rooms over three floors.

Amenities include a variety of communal areas, hairdressers, tech hub, games room, multifunctional space for community engagement, gift shop, lifestyle kitchens, café area and a range of dining areas.

The council-built home will be run and managed by Anavo Group on a 35-year contract.

Cllr Abraham said: “I am so pleased that from day one I have been involved in this home and the building of this place. Kingston, the Royal Borough, is so fortunate to have this beautiful building here.”
