HC-One care homes mark Global Intergenerational Week

HC-One care homes are celebrating all things intergenerational to mark Global Intergenerational Week.

Global Intergenerational Week, which takes place 24 to 30 April 2024, aims to inspire individuals to embrace intergenerational practice and connects people of different generations through a variety of activities.

At Brandon House Care Home in Coventry, arts and crafts organisation Creative Mojo and Lady Bird Pre-school joined residents in making a poster in honour of Jamaican reggae music artist, Bob Marley.

Sheryl Davis, home manager at Brandon House Care Home, said: Developing intergenerational relationships is very important. The sessions help residents to build valuable connections whilst teaching and sharing their wisdom with younger generations.

Newlands Care Home in Stockport, Cheshire welcomed children from The Heatons at St. Paul’s nursery. The children and residents took part in an arts and crafts session which involved making salt dough dragons and monsters.

Melissa Johnson, home manager at Newlands Care Home, said: “Residents really enjoyed taking part in an arts and crafts session with the children and chatting to them. It was great to see meaningful relationships being formed between the residents and nursery children.”

At Meadow Bank Care Home in Preston, Lancashire, wellbeing coordinator Dawn Ward’s 16-month-old grandson visited the home to bring a smile to residents’ faces. Caroline Daley, home manager at Meadow Bank Care Home, said: “Building intergenerational relationships is very important to us at Meadow Bank Care Home, as it can help improve attitudes, behaviours, and the quality of life of both younger and older generations.”
