Woking care home achieves highest end-of-life care recognition

A Woking care home has become one of only five UK care homes to achieve a perfect score in The Gold Standards Framework (GSF), leading to the highest recognition in end-of-life care.

Princess Christian Care Centre, part of the Nellsar Care Home Group, scored 100% in its assessment and has been reaccredited with GSF Platinum status – a hallmark of excellence that recognises sustained high-quality end-of-life care.

Some 329 care homes in the UK have achieved GSF accreditation, with 42 reaccredited this year, 28 awarded Platinum status, and five achieving a score of 100%.

For over two decades GSF has helped care providers deliver improved and proactive care, enabling people to live well until they die with a practical and evidence-based end-of-life care improvement programme.

Mario Taherian, general registered manager at Princess Christian said: “I’m incredibly proud of the team for their dedication to excellence and continuing to set new benchmarks in the industry. I believe that such recognition reflects the quality of care we deliver and also encourages us to continue doing what we’re doing by supporting individuals and their families in the latter stages of life.”

The home was first awarded Platinum status in 2018, earning reaccreditation in 2021, and again in 2024. The Quality Hallmark Award lasts for three years, with the next reaccreditation set for 2027. Among the 13 Nellsar homes across Kent, Surrey, and Essex, 10 have achieved GSF training, with two, Abbotsleigh and Princess Christian, holding Platinum status.
