Truss pledges £13bn to social care
Tory candidate Liz Truss has said she will give £13bn to the adult social care sector if elected.
During a leadership debate on Sky News, Truss said that many people are currently in hospital who ought to be in social care but “there aren’t the beds available”.
“I’d, first of all, make sure we’re investing the money available in social care,” she said, adding she would make sure “the recent funding allocated – the £13bn – is put into social care”.
Ms Truss has previously said she would look to increase funding for social care through other channels but scrap the health and social care levy on national insurance contributions. She has also expressed support for more devolution for local government, telling Local Government Chronicle that she was in favour of North Yorkshire and York’s devolution deal.
