Swanton Care buys Freedom Care and Support

Apposite Capital-backed Swanton Care and Community has acquired Freedom Care and Support. This is Swanton’s ninth acquisition to date and follows that of Deanston House in October.

The acquisition of Freedom will allow Swanton to improve its hub model in the locality, the company said.

Financial datails of the transaction were not disclosed.

Freedom provides supported living services to adults with a range of disabilities including learning difficulties and mental health. The head office is in Burnley, Lancashire, and most people supported by Freedom are based locally. Freedom is an approved provider with both the local authority and local clinical commissioning group.

Swanton provides specialist care including autism and learning disabilities and other services across Great Britain, supporting more than 610 people and employing 2,100 staff.

Swanton recorded revenues of roughly £54 million in its 2021 fiscal year and EBITDA of £8.3 million, according to its latest account filings.

Andrew Dalton, chief executive of Swanton said: “[Freedom is] a highly recognised local provider with a proven track record in the specialist area of adult care whose values are aligned with those of Swanton. We are already working with the Freedom team to best serve the community together.”

Apposite Capital has mandated Baird to explore a sale of Swanton and the process is expected to launch early next year, Caring Times hears from a source close to the process.

Trowers & Hamlins and Eight Advisory advised on the deal.
