Scottish care worker given warning after being found guilty of drinking at work
A Scottish care worker has been given a warning after being found to have consumed alcohol on multiple occasions while working.
Henry Doyle was issued a warning by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) on 9 July 2024 after he turned down the option of a hearing.
The Motherwell-based Doyle is employed as a personal assistant by Enable Scotland (Leading the Way).
The SSSC found him guilty of “consuming alcohol while on shift” on three separate occasions between 2021 and 2023.
A report by the SSSC revealed that it had deemed Doyle’s fitness to practice “impaired”.
In assessing the severity of Doyle’s infraction, it added: “Whilst there was no harm caused, you placed that individual at risk of harm. You have breached the trust placed in you by that individual and your employer.
“You have co-operated with the SSSC’s investigation and admitted your behaviour. You had told the SSSC that you have taken steps to prevent this behaviour from recurring.
“There is a need in your case, although the risk of repetition appears to sit towards the lower end of the scale, to impose a warning on your
registration to reaffirm the clear standards of professional conduct.”
It concluded: “After referring to our decisions guidance, we decided the appropriate sanction is to place a warning on your registration for a period of 12 months.”
