A decision on a planning application to build a £10 million luxury care home in Glasgow has been delayed after the applicant submitted new proposals.

Scottish care home operator Northcare has reduced the size of its proposed development in Jordanhill from 66 beds to 60 beds to address concerns over a loss of outdoor public space.

Glasgow City Council received 115 objections to the proposals with eight letters of support.

Opponents said the care home would be too high, take away outdoor public space and cause overlooking.

Northcare director William Sawers told Caring Times there was great need for quality care provision in Jordanhill as the current provision of elderly care was “extremely dated”.

“We aim to be good neighbours and make our in-house community facilities available to the local community,” Sawers said. “In this instance we are creating public open space and making contributions to alternative sports provision.”

Sawers said the facility would provide 90 permanent jobs for the local community as well as 200 roles for construction workers over an 18-month period.

A Glasgow City Council spokesperson said a date to consider the revised plans for the development had yet to be decided.
