Man with bow and arrow arrested following care home stand-off

A 63-year-old man has been arrested after reportedly threatening staff with a bow and arrow at a Lancashire care home.

The incident took place at Sage Care Homes’ Belmar Nursing Home in Stanley Road, Lytham on Monday afternoon.

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said: “We were called at 1.35pm on Monday (October 2) to a nursing home on Stanley Road, Lytham, to a report of a concern for welfare.

“It was reported to us that a man was causing criminal damage at the property and had made threats to staff.

“Stanley Road was shut while officers brought the incident to a close at approximately 3.12pm.

“A 63-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray – section 3 public order – and is currently in custody.”

It was reported the man had been threatening staff with the bow and arrow as well as causing damage to the home.

The Blackpool Gazette reported eyewitness accounts of the man allegedly firing arrows at police officers during the stand-off but this has not been confirmed.

North West Ambulance Service attended the incident but no one was taken to hospital.

Belmar Nursing Home declined to comment when contacted by Caring Times.
