Macc Care has shared plans for a major upgrade of dementia care provision in the West Midlands with local MP Gary Sambrook.

The MP for Birmingham, Northfield and his chief of staff heard Macc Care’s plans to upgrade Austin Rose care home in West Heath and discussed wider care industry issues and employment opportunities for the over 50s.

Belisa Dushku, customer relationship assistant at Macc Care, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Mr Sambrook to our home and his genuine interest in what we do reaffirmed the significance of Austin Rose’s work within the community, particularly in addressing the needs of individuals affected by dementia. It’s also reassuring to know that he cares for the industry as a whole and is willing to drive this forward both in terms of employment opportunities and affordability. We look forward to welcoming him back in the future to witness the positive transformations taking place here, and to discuss the wider industry progress.”

Plans to upgrade the first floor of the home include enhanced security measures to prevent wandering, with layouts and designs that promote familiarity. Residents will also be offered specialised activities and engaging programmes, while also benefiting from person-centred care that prioritises their individual needs. Staff members will also undergo dementia specific training to help create a supportive environment to enhance the quality of life for those living with the disease.

Sambrook also discussed the availability of specialised training programmes designed for individuals aged 50 and above who are currently unemployed and wanting to get into the care sector. The Tory MP also questioned Austin Rose’s engagement with local authorities and the payment options available to residents to understand the homes’ collaboration with governing bodies and ensure that its services were accessible to a broader range of individuals, regardless of their financial circumstances.
