Liz Kendall moved from social care in Labour shadow cabinet reshuffle
Liz Kendall has left her post as shadow social care minister under a reshuffle of the Labour Party shadow cabinet yesterday.
Labour leader Keir Starmer’s reshuffle saw Kendall moved to shadow secretary of state for work and pensions.
Kendall’s replacement at social care is expected to be announced in the next 24 hours.
Kendall served as shadow minister for health and social care for three-and-a-half years having been appointed in April 2020.
An advocate for reform, she called for the devolution of powers on social care to the service user and their families.
Speaking to Caring Times in May this year, Kendall said social care needed a 10-year plan with a National Care Service among the key reforms being explored by Labour.
Shadow health minister Wes Streeting commissioned the Fabian Society in 2022 to launch a review of how a National Care Service would work.
Kendall called for “clearer national pay and conditions for staff” and a “much more joined up approach with the NHS” on recruitment and retention.
