Inadequate care home left residents at risk of harm and overdose

A Leicestershire care home has been rated Inadequate after residents were left at risk of harm and overdose.

Cedar Court Residential and Nursing Home, which is operated by HC-One, was rated Inadequate by the CQC following an inspection in October.

The CQC said unsafe medicines systems and process left people at risk of harm as they did not receive time critical dosages as prescribed.

This included medicines for the management of cardiac conditions, including diabetes, infections and neurological disorders with one person not receiving their insulin for five days.

A significant amount of medicines were also left in an unlocked area.

A spokesperson for Cedar Court said: “The wellbeing and safety of our residents is always our top priority, and we therefore take all feedback from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) very seriously. We sincerely apologise that the home has not met the high standards expected by our residents, their loved ones, and ourselves.

“We are working through a comprehensive action plan to address the CQC’s wider feedback with the support of a turnaround manager. We recognise the importance of putting in place processes, training, and mentoring which is needed to support all colleagues to succeed in their roles.

“We are working closely with the local authority and the CQC to demonstrate our improvement plan in action, to showcase the positive progress we are making, and to make sure residents consistently receive the support they need. Everyone working at Cedar Court is determined to deliver great care, achieve the best outcomes for our residents, and to win back the trust of the local community.”
