Four staff members charged over death of resident at Derby care home

Four staff members has been charged over the death of an 84-year-old woman at a Derby care home.

Derbyshire Constabulary charged Alison Linda Foster, Nakeeba Akhtar and Prabina Thapa with perverting the course of justice and wilful neglect. Amar Muneer was also charged with wilful neglect.

Shirley Froggett was found on the floor of the lounge at New Lodge Nursing Home on 19 September 2018.

Ms Froggett had suffered injuries including a fractured thighbone after falling out of her wheelchair.

Despite this, no medical assistance was requested and no notification of the incident was reported until nine days later.

When the notification was submitted it was stated Ms Froggatt had fallen out of her wheelchair after opening her lap strap, however, it was later established that no lap belt had been in place.

Her family called for an ambulance after visiting and she was taken to hospital where she contracted broncho-pneumonia and later died.

The care home and manager, Lindsay Foster, were ordered to pay £39,000 for failing to provide safe care and treatment in April 2022 after a prosecution brought by the CQC.

The accused appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, October 26, 2023 where the case was sent to Derby Crown Court.

They were all handed unconditional bail.
