Exemplar Health Care has unveiled an ambitious £200 million expansion plan to create 40 specialist care homes and 4,000 jobs.

The specialist care provider intends to add 40 new homes to its existing portfolio of 42 services over the next five years, focusing on the Northwest, Northeast and Midlands. A number of development sites have already been identified and 10 homes are already in development.

To support the expansion plan, Exemplar Health Care’s development team are on the hunt for new land buying opportunities across the North and Midlands. This includes undeveloped land, existing or recently closed care services that can be adapted to the Exemplar Health Care model, or other similar sites.

Martin Vickerman, property and developments director at Exemplar Health Care, said: “We are really excited about our plans to double in size over the next five years, creating thousands of new employment opportunities and making every day better for the people we support, their families, and our colleagues.

“Our expansion is driven by commissioning demands and the upsetting reality that many individuals living with complex conditions are frequently left in unsuitable hospital settings, sometimes for extended periods exceeding two years, and invariably far from their homes.

“This situation poses significant challenges to the wellbeing and rehabilitation of these individuals, the wellbeing of their friends, families and loved ones, whilst adding in additional and unnecessary pressure on acute NHS services.

“We therefore feel it is vital to bring more community services to market so we can better support individuals needing high acuity care, help them live closer to their support networks, and offer a really personalised approach to supporting them to achieve their goals. All the while, we’ll be helping the NHS free up much needed capacity, particularly those beds which are often occupied on a long-term basis and having more intensive nursing intervention needs.

“By offering state-of-the-art community homes, a clear focus on promoting independence and life-choices, and a unique highly trained, multi-disciplinary, holistic care team, we are confident we have an exceptionally strong offer for local commissioners and communities, whilst setting a new standard for excellence in the care for adults with complex needs.”
