Optimo expands reach with Abbeycare acquisition
Supported living and domiciliary care group Optimo Care Group has completed the acquisition of Abbeycare, HealthInvestor can reveal. This deal follows Optimo’s streak of seven acquisitions over the past year.
Established in 2007 and operating across Sheffield, Abbeycare provides a range of care services specialising in supported living to individuals with complex care needs. The provider currently employs in the region of 110 staff, all of whom will remain with the business with plans established to further increase the size of the team through further expansion of its services.
Optimo has also acquired a portfolio of supported living properties across the Sheffield region as part of this deal.
Co-founded by Mark Hales and Richard Walker in 2010, Optimo is made up of a number of subsidiaries, and delivers around 25,000 hours of care per week, employing over 1,100 people, operating across the North of England.
Ben Hales, group projects director and head of M&A at Optimo, said: “This deal marks our fourth acquisition of 2023 and totals our eighth deal in the last 12 months. The addition of Abbeycare further develops and supports our strategy of expanding our supported living and Specialist care services across the UK.”
He also extended his appreciation to owners Mick and Mandy Abbey, acknowledging their substantial contributions to Abbey Care’s success over the past 13 years.

Financial details were not disclsed. The sale was facilitated by Redwoods Dowling Kerr.
