A Boutique Care Homes planning application for a 68-bed care home in Tadley, Hampshire has been rejected by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.

The council cited a lack of sympathy with the local area and impact on neighbours and the environment in its decision.

The proposal, which would create over 70 jobs for the local community, was for a care home featuring en-suite wet rooms and amenities, including a bistro, beauty salon, cinema lounge, hobby craft room, landscaped gardens and courtyard.

Of 35 comments submitted on the plans, 33 were opposed with 2 in favour.

Planning officers said the proposed care home’s scale and design were not in harmony with the character and visual quality of the area and appeared incongruous within the existing streetscape.

In addition, the council said the proximity of the proposed building to an adjacent dwelling was predicted to have a harmful impact on the neighbour’s amenity resulting in a loss of privacy and an oppressive living environment.

A Boutique Care Homes spokesperson commented: “Whilst we are of course disappointed that our initial application has been refused, we will review our plans and continue to work with the planning officers to deliver our much-needed care home for the residents of Tadley.”
