Six budding linguists at Collisdene Care Centre celebrate qualifying in French

Six individuals at Collisdene Care Centre in Strathaven, South Lanarkshire have celebrated graduating with French Level 2 in modern languages.

Family, friends and famous local faces such as the provost, Margaret Cooper and local councillor, Elise Frame, joined in to celebrate the budding linguists’ incredible feat.

Activities coordinator, Rosie Brennan said: “Collisdene Care Centre has been great at creating opportunities like this for those who seek our help, though all the credit should go to the individuals who put in those 12 weeks of work.

“It’s been great to see how they have all grown in confidence throughout this programme, and I look forward to see what mountain they decide to take on next.”

The six graduates with learning disabilities took part in the 12-week, Lingo Flamingo programme, which gives individuals of different abilities the chance to gain an understanding of major European languages such as French, Portuguese and Italian.

Local councillor for Strathaven, Elise Frame, said: “It’s such a special moment for everyone involved, but in particular the six individuals who graduated.

“They should feel an immense sense of pride in their achievements, and from talking to their families, it’s clear that their loved ones share that same overwhelming pride.

“It was amazing to see the happiness in the eyes of the graduates, showing that the 12 weeks of hard work was worth it.

“Not only is this special for the individuals, but also for Collisdene Care Centre, as members off the staff, such as Rosie, have worked so hard to give those with learning difficulties an opportunity like this.”
