Care UK has announced the temporary closure of a care home due to “structural defects”.

Salisbury Manor care home in Wiltshire was acquired from Gracewell Healthcare in 2021.

Jemma Griffiths, regional director for Care UK, said: “While we were undertaking some work to update a sprinkler system in Salisbury Manor, our consultants discovered some structural defects which will require significant alteration to put right to ensure the home remains safe in the long term.

“After exploring various options, we have come to understand that the repairs cannot be completed safely or effectively while the home is occupied so we have reluctantly concluded that it will be necessary for residents to temporarily move out of Salisbury Manor.

“We recognise this is unsettling news and we are doing everything we can to work with residents, their relatives and our partners in the relevant local authorities and the NHS to help everyone find somewhere new to live. The majority of residents already have a plan for alternate accommodation in place. Our team is working tirelessly to ensure a smooth and safe transition for all residents.”

Griffiths said Care UK had become in consultation with staff at the home and was seeking to identify opportunities for colleagues while Salisbury Manor is closed.

She added: “I would like to offer my apologies for the disruption this causes to those affected and want to reassure everyone involved that we would do all we can to support families, residents and colleagues throughout this process.”
