Care manager runs London Marathon to raise awareness of pulmonary fibrosis

Matt Capener, regional operations manager at RMBI Care Co, has run his first London Marathon to raise awareness of pulmonary fibrosis.

Capener was motivated to raise awareness of the disease, which occurs when the lung tissue becomes damaged and scarred, by the loss of his brother Mick to pulmonary fibrosis.

“My lovely brother, a wonderful bloke who made me laugh till my belly ached, died at the age of 62 after working in the NHS for 40 years. Pulmonary fibrosis ended his life far too soon,” said Capener.

Capener aimed to raise £250 for the Pulmonary Fibrosis Trust, which provides personal support to people affected by the illness, but ended up smashing his target by around 800% by raising over £2,000.

“I hate running, but I wanted to raise money and awareness for this fantastic charity,” he said.
