Care homes up and down the country have celebrated the coronation of King Charles III.

The bunting came out as care homes joined the national celebrations with street-party style events and a host of other activities.

Award winning Oxford-based care home, The Close, held a ‘King for a King’ celebration as Elvis impersonator Mike Nova entertained residents who were encouraged to polish up their pearls and show off their sartorial style with a range of favourites from the 50s and 60s.

Managing director Sanjay Dhrona said: “We know that so many of the residents would want to mark the coronation, so we thought after the success of our Jubilee party, we had to host something amazing for the Coronation… We had Queen for a Queen, so why not King for King!”

Broadcaster and royal expert Jennie Bond gave Signature Senior Lifestyle residents and relatives a unique insight into the royal celebrations during a Q&A session at Signature at Hendon Hall which was live streamed on YouTube to sister care homes.

Malcolm Spiro, resident at Signature at Hendon Hall said: “Jennie is clearly the expert on all things royal family related. Ahead of the Coronation on Saturday, there was nobody better to take us through the ceremony and to give an insight into King Charles III and his wider family.”

Meanwhile, people supported by social care charity, Community Integrated Care, were “over the moon” to receive VIP tickets to the Coronation service in Westminster Abbey thanks to Skills for Care, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Department of Health and Social Care.

Four of the charity’s biggest royal enthusiasts received royal treatment as they travelled down to London and were invited to view the procession from the exclusive Queen Victoria Memorial Grandstand, alongside members of the Armed Forces and NHS.

Susan Hill from Runcorn, who is affectionately known as ‘Princess Susan’ by her friends and support team for her love of the monarchy, said: “I was over the moon when I heard I’d received tickets to the Coronation, and so excited to be there in person. It was amazing to be in London and see King Charles and Queen Camilla crowned. The day felt like a dream. I am so grateful for everyone that made this experience possible.”
