Care home opens tiki bar for residents

Goldenley Care Home in Essex has been celebrating the opening of its own tiki bar.

Castle Point Mayoress Lyndsey Calvert visited the Excelcare home to open the tropical-themed bar, which was created following a suggestion during a residents’ meeting.

After a resident’s daughter found a tiki bar for sale in Kent, residents got involved sanding, painting, varnishing and decorating it alongside lifestyle co-ordinator Faith Jones.

The granddaughter of another Goldenley Care Home resident created a mural for the garden space including a sunset, a beach scene, palm trees, and toucans.

Friends, family and members of the community, including children from Appleton School, were invited to the grand opening. After a tour of the Benfleet home, the Mayoress cut the ribbon and declared the tiki bar open.

“I would like to thank everyone who offered their time and dedication to this project, it looks amazing, and it will be lovely to see the many happy hours for the residents to enjoy,” said Jones.
