Care group launches CarePool Karaoke to mark Mental Health Awareness Week

ACI Care has launched its own take on James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke to give staff and residents the opportunity to talk and sing together.

The Kent, East Sussex and Northamptonshire-based care group created the three-part CarePool Karaoke series to coincide with Mental Health Awareness Week (15-21 May 2023).

The first two episodes of the series, based on The Late Late Show’s Carpool Karaoke, feature carers Dale and Gemma singing and discussing their careers and what they love about care. The third episode will feature Nora (72) and Mavis (82), two residents from Gabriel Court, an ACI run care home in Kettering.

Singing has been shown to reduce stress, improve breathing and posture, and enhance mood, wellbeing, cognitive function and memory. Conversations between carers and residents allow them to learn new things and bond with each other.

Ravi Sodha, director of ACI Care, said: “We understand the importance of good mental health, especially in the care industry, where the demands can be high for staff and feelings of isolation and loneliness can present themselves amongst residents. Carepool Karaoke provided an opportunity for our staff and residents to have some fun and connect with each other outside of the typical care setting, while also bringing attention to Mental Health Awareness Week.

ACI Care plans to follow up the initiative with Care Couch Karaoke, which staff will film in the care homes.
