Barchester Healthcare’s Maple Leaf Lodge and Newton House care homes are to become collection points for their local foodbank.

The Grantham Foodbank serves the local community and supports those in need by preventing those on low incomes from going hungry.

Barchester customer relationship manager, Mark Shelton, who came up with the idea for the initiative, met with the foodbank team last week to see their incredible work in action.

Shelton said: “I approached Dorothy who is the foodbank’s lead coordinator to ask if our homes could become food bank donation points.

“Dorothy was delighted by this idea and from this I asked if it was convenient for me to meet Dorothy and the team at the foodbank while taking down gifts on behalf of our residents to say thank you for all of their hard work and dedication in helping others.”

Sonia Fairhurst & Kerry Angeloni, general managers at Newton House and Maple Leaf, said: “We are both proud and delighted that our homes are becoming food donation points for a much valued and essential charity organisation. The Grantham Foodbank does so much to help those in need.”

Maple Leaf Lodge and Newton House provide residential care, nursing care and dementia care for 67 and 120 residents, from respite care to long-term stays.
