Athena Care Homes takes step towards zero waste
Athena Care Homes has committed to replacing multiple cleaning products with a refillable multi-use system in a step towards eliminating waste.
The organisation is adopting eco-friendly, non-hazardous cleaner OdorBac across its five East Anglia-based care homes. OdorBac manufacturer 2Pure produces the multi-use cleaner in the UK using renewable energy sources. It operates a refill scheme, where customers repack empty five-litre containers in the boxes they were delivered in and return them to be washed and refilled.
The biodegradable fluid is delivered as a concentrate and diluted on site to reduce transport costs and emissions. The solution can be used as a cleaner, degreaser, sanitiser, fabric cleaner, carpet shampoo and odour eliminator, making cleaning processes more time efficient for housekeeping teams.
Katherine Foley, group operations director at Athena Care Homes, said: “We are constantly reviewing our operations and looking at more eco-friendly options that allow us to continue providing a high level of service while also protecting our environment.”
Other steps Athena Care Homes has taken to protect the environment include planting five trees for each resident that moves in to one of its care homes.
