London-based home care start-up, Cera Care, which relies heavily on digital and artificial intelligence in its service delivery, has acquired Mears Care, one of the UK’s major home care providers.

The acquisition of Mears means Cera is now one of the 15 biggest home care companies in the UK, just three years after launch.

The £30 million-plus deal is a significant milestone in Cera’s ambition to offer cutting-edge, digital-driven home care, becoming the first company globally to use artificial intelligence at scale in social care.

Cera now has more than 2,000 employees, 20 offices across the country, delivering more than 10,000 home care visits per day, with the acquisition growing Cera’s revenues by more than £30 million.

Cera Care’s co-founder and chief executive Dr Ben Maruthappu said the acquisition of Mears gave the company the opportunity to transform a traditional care service into an innovative care provider, operating on the frontier of social care.

“This milestone will provide us with much greater national coverage, combined with a strong network and talent-base, that takes our offering to a new level, serving many more users, and empowering many more care workers – making Cera the leader in modern and effective elderly care,” said Dr Maruthappu.

“Since our launch in 2016, we have demonstrated our commitment to improving the quality of care provided to older people. Through the development and use of pioneering new technologies, we are transforming the lives of users and front-line staff, while working with the NHS to deliver better integrated services across the country.”

Information technology used by Cera includes machine learning algorithms designed to predict health deteriorations before they occur, claiming 83% accuracy, and its ‘Dynamic Tasks’ platform – a so called Google Maps for care which uses artificial intelligence to recommend actions to carers, claiming 93% accuracy.

Cera has numerous partnerships with organisations such as the NHS, Uber, Deliveroo and IBM.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”10px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”31808″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” css=”.vc_custom_1580714994305{padding-top: 10px !important;padding-bottom: 10px !important;}”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1536940576920{padding-top: 20px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] ')} [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
