Senior living above par as care home opens putting green

The four-hole facility at Meallmore run care home, Mearns House, was officially opened by members of the Golf in Society Group at an event for residents.
A Newton Mearns care home has opened a golf putting green in its grounds to provide a new activity for residents.
Teeing off the day, residents were invited to take part in the home’s inaugural outdoors putting golf challenge, while celebrating with fizz, fresh fruit, and pastries in the spring sunshine.
When the golf competition came to a close, entertainment was provided by the Primary Five school choir from Kirkhill Primary School.
Mearns House is home to a number of golf lovers and enthusiastic novices, with the team at Golf in Society already running a fortnightly golfing session, allowing them to experience the fun and social benefits of playing golf in a safe and supervised environment.
The new putting green will enrich this much-loved activity, while offering more opportunities for residents to enjoy a fulfilling and active lifestyle.
With a commitment to ‘live well every day’, Mearns House offers a diverse range of activities for residents to encourage social connection, creativity, and physical wellbeing.
As well as the new putting green, residents are also encouraged to keep active and engaged with bowls, exercise, and wellness, music and entertainment, arts and crafts, and a cinema room where they can enjoy classic films, new releases, or sporting events.
Kirsty Craig, general manager at Mearns House, said: “There’s been a lot of excitement about the new putting green, so it was fabulous to host this event and mark the occasion in such a fun way – and even the weather played ball.
“Our wonderful activities team strive to make every day memorable for the residents and their families, creating an amazing activity programme that meets the needs, wants, and wishes of each resident.
“This is something our residents were keen to make a reality, so I’m thrilled that we could deliver it for them and I looking forward to seeing residents enjoying the putting green and hope the sun continues to shine for us.”
Tom Duff, regional lead for Scotland at Golf in Society, who officially opened the green, added: “This is a fantastic facility and we look forward to delivering many sessions on it as our season develops.”
Mearns House is run by Meallmore, which currently operates 27 homes across Scotland: 21 for elderly residents, five for adults with mental health needs, and one for adults with learning or physical disabilities.
