Care sector celebrates International Nurses Day
The care sector is celebrating the work of its nurses with interviews and a video to mark International Nurses Day.
Cheshire-based MHA Chapel Fields highlighted the work of registered nurses including Elizabeth Santiey, who has worked at the home for 11 years. “The level of care given to residents, the support shown to staff, and an encouraging environment is why I love working here and I am very excited in continuing my journey here,” she said.
Angela Jenner, another registered nurse at the home, said: “I became a registered nurse in November 1986 and struggled to find employment and started working in a hospice where I worked for 22 years before moving to MHA Chapel Fields.
“I work on the Dementia Unit, which was hard to come to terms with initially, but now I see it as a privilege as it helped me to care for my mum who was living with dementia.”
Senior care assistant Gemma Baldivia said: “My experience and knowledge ensures that I deliver a high quality of care to the residents I look after. I have amassed a breadth of clinical knowledge and for the 12 years I’ve been working with MHA, I have felt supported and valued as a member of staff.”
Lydia Gossett who has been a registered nurse for over a year, said the support she received contributed to her confidence growing “exponentially”.
Meanwhile the directors of The Outstanding Society, set up to share and celebrate best practice in social care, have released a video of their many attempts to wish nurses in the sector a happy International Nurses Day. The video includes information about the organisation’s free virtual event The Nurse Factor: International Superstars of our Sector, taking place on 18 May 2023.
