Black Swan moves to sustainable chemical-free cleaning
Care provider Black Swan Care Group hopes to save around £30,000 over five years by replacing more than 50 types of cleaning products with a chemical-free cleaning solution.
The company has replaced glass cleaners, deodorisers, surface sanitisers, multipurpose cleaners, cleaning cloths and single use surface disinfectant wipes with a two-stage cleaning and sanitising process.
The Stabilised Aqueous Ozone system, developed by Tersano, uses a cleaner and sanitiser with microfibre cloths. Electricity is passed through tap water and splits out the oxygen molecules which changes the chemical structure from O2 to O3. Once converted to this form, oxygen sticks to grime, viruses, bacteria, mould and dirt.
Environmental benefits include an annual reduction in plastics, diverting nearly 5,000 plastic bottles from landfill, and an annual carbon saving of nearly 2,500 kg.
The system also reduces the use of petrochemical based cleaners, resulting in lower VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds), toxins, and chemical residues.
Susan Webster, operations director at Black Swan Care Group, said: “The results we’re seeing are really impressive. Not only are we continuing to have a powerful, effective cleaning process, which is vital in our homes, we are also going to see a massive reduction in the use of plastics.”
Newline Cleaning & Hygiene Supplies oversaw the installation of Tersano across all 22 Black Swan care homes.
