Supported adults contribute to home makeover
People supported by a social care provider played a key role in developing the look and feel of their newly refurbished home in Lancashire.
More than £80,000 of refurbishments have been carried out at Primrose Neurological Centre, Morecambe, part of National Neurological Services (NNS) operated by social care provider National Care Group. The refurbishments are part of a series of investments at several NNS sites across Northwest England.
The enhancements at the specialist neurological care service include full decoration of corridors, the staff office and lavatory, and communal rooms, new furniture in the dining room and living room, new non-slip flooring, upgraded LED lighting, improvements to the outdoor space, and replacement cladding on external windows. Heating renovations also took place, with new pipework installed throughout the building and concealed for improved health and safety.
Primrose Neurological Centre supports adults with an acquired brain injury or a neurological condition. The supported people had their say on the redecoration of communal spaces, tailored to stimulate their development and meet their needs. They chose the colour themes for the dining room and living room and were involved in selecting new furniture.
A highlight for registered manager Jacqueline Prescott is the freshly refurbished laundry room. She said: “It’s my pride and joy. In fact, during a recent IPC inspection, the officer commented on how she had never seen a laundry room look so sparkling.
“The refurbishments have made a huge difference to colleagues and the people we support, making it feel so much more homely. It’s created so much joy and brought everyone together.
“We took the people we support out on day trips during the makeover to escape any disruption and keep them safe. They were very excited to return and see their newly renovated home.”
Natasha Croydon-Fowler, area facilities construction manager at National Care Group, commented: “It has been a pleasure working with Primrose Neurological Centre to improve their home environment so that they feel empowered in their surroundings. Investment in our services is part of National Care Group’s commitment to enable the people we support to reach their full potential. We have further developments planned, all to provide solutions and environments for the people we support and colleagues to enhance their lives and wellbeing.”
