Mystery blankets

Residents of Dene Holm Residential Care Home in Northfleet received a gift from a local stranger, in the form of some handmade sensory fidget blanket left on the doorstep

The blankets were an instant hit with the residents, who enjoyed fiddling with the items that had been stitched on, as well as admiring the beautiful appearance.

Fidget blankets, also known as activity blankets, are lap sized quilts which feature a variety of detailing, such as zips, pom poms, pockets, buttons, buckles and ribbons. The busy blankets are designed to soothe anxious hands and provide all-important sensory stimulation for older people living with dementia.

Christine Hutchinson, general manager of Dene Holm said: “It was very kind of this person to think of us and put so much work into making these beautiful blankets. The residents loved them instantly and I’m sure they will continue to bring them much joy, so thank you whoever you are!”
