Encore Care Homes has introduced a dedicated role to “provide a boost” to the wellbeing of residents with dementia across its four homes in Dorset and Hampshire.

Sue Lanceley, previously home manager at Encore’s Great Oaks care home in Bournemouth, has been promoted to the role of Group Dementia Specialist Nurse. She will focus on the needs of residents with dementia and provide additional support to their relatives where necessary.

Lanceley will introduce ongoing enhanced dementia training to Encore’s care teams to establish new ways of enabling older people with dementia to live safely and comfortably. She will act as a point of contact between care home teams and relatives as residents’ needs change, to ensure they receive the best support possible.

“The families of our residents are so important as they know their loved one better than anyone, so it will be incredibly rewarding for me to work with them to continue to do what is best for their loved one,” said Lanceley. “We have dementia communities in all four of our care homes and so it will be great to help us deliver an even higher standard of care for those residents.”

Lanceley has spent the last ten years specialising in dementia care. Her previous roles include manager at Rickeston Mill, owned by Care Inn, now known as Caron Group. She won the Leadership and Management in Residential Care Services category at the 2017 Wales Care Awards
