The Maria Mallaband Care Group has partnered with Care Campaign for the Vulnerable to roll out independent safety monitoring systems in its homes.

Care Campaign for the Vulnerable has campaigned for the use of CCTV or cameras in care homes in a bid to put a stop to abuse cases and keep residents and workers safe.

Paul Walsh, Maria Mallaband Care Group (MMCG) chief operating officer, said “transparency and an atmosphere of openness and learning” was vital when it came to raising standards.

‘CCFTV’s campaign for safety in dementia care chimes completely with our own drive to improve dementia care across our services and embed a culture of recognising and celebrating the individuality of every person living with dementia in our care,” he said.

The initiative will be introduced to Kings Manor in Devon, before rolling out to other homes including Lace Hill Manor and Chartwell Manor in Buckinghamshire.

Care Campaign for the Vulnerable is a not-for-profit organisation focused on safety in dementia care. Its mission is to advocate for and promote independently monitored camera systems in communal areas and private rooms in care homes.

Jayne Connery, who founded the campaign group 10 years ago, said MMCG’s move “holds deep personal meaning for me after years of advocating for enhanced safety measures in care homes.”

She added: “MMCG’s current management team has demonstrated unwavering commitment and dedication to enhancing transparency in care homes. Our joint effort to promote independent monitoring aligns with the shared vision of prioritising vulnerable residents and their carers’ safety and wellbeing.

“MMCG’s decision to embrace this initiative sets an exemplary standard for the care industry, and we are optimistic that it will inspire other care providers to follow suit.”
